Tips to Help You Prevent Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection long enough for sexual intercourse. About one in ten men have erectile dysfunction. In some cases, ED is a symptom of an underlying condition, like high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Some medications used to treat other conditions, like antidepressants, muscle relaxants, hormonal drugs, or diuretics, can lead to ED. Sometimes you can prevent ED. The following tips can help you prevent erectile dysfunction. 

Watch your diet

Studies show that the same diet that can cause heart attacks because of restricted blood flow in your coronary arteries can also obstruct blood flow to and within your penis. You need enough blood flow to your penis for it to become erect. Lack of fruits and vegetables in your diet and taking fatty and processed foods can lead to decreased blood circulation in your body.

Ensure you eat enough fruits and vegetables daily and avoid fatty foods to improve blood circulation.

Avoid high blood pressure and high cholesterol

High blood pressure and high cholesterol can cause blood vessel damage, including those that take blood to your penis, leading to ED. Ensure you get regular blood pressure and cholesterol tests. If you are diagnosed with any of these conditions, get treatment. Certain blood pressure drugs can also cause erectile dysfunction. 

But doctors mostly blame ED on high blood pressure because it damages the arteries.

Exercise regularly

Being obese can lead to erectile dysfunction. Research shows running, swimming, and other aerobic exercises help prevent erectile dysfunction. Exercises also help improve blood circulation in your body. But you should avoid vigorous activities that pressure the region between your anus and scrotum. 

Blood vessels and nerves that supply your penis can be affected by extreme pressure from the area.

Avoid drinking too much alcohol

Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause liver and nerve damage and conditions that alter levels of male sex hormones. These problems can lead to erectile dysfunction. Binge drinking can also impact the ability to erect. 

Studies show no evidence that mild and moderate alcohol consumption causes erectile dysfunction.

Curb stress

Psychological stress stimulates the production of the hormone adrenaline, which causes the contraction of blood vessels. The contraction can happen in your penis vessels, leading to ED. Avoid stressful situations that can alter your sex drive. 

Try all ways you can to ease tension and feel emotionally stable, giving your sex life a boost.

Use testosterone tabs

As you age, your testosterone levels gradually fall from age fifty. Studies show that your testosterone levels usually fall by about one point three percent every year after forty years. Symptoms such as a low sex drive, moodiness, lack of stamina, and trouble making decisions can indicate testosterone deficiency. 

Your doctor can suggest using testosterone tabs to improve your sex life. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection long enough for sexual intercourse.
