Have you seen the Hollywood Sci-Fi thriller, Matrix? If you are a millennial or a Gen-Z, you probably would have. If not, then please use the power of the subscription-based video streaming services and watch it as soon as possible. The film would introduce you to Neo, Trinity, and of course, many coding languages, which are likely to go over your head unless you are a computer geek. However, the twist in the tail is, we are not discussing the film in this article; in fact, it is an attempt to pay tribute to the women in coding.

Let’s not forget that the first computer programmer was indeed a woman. Shocked? Don’t be as we highlight and learn more about some women coders who have been the epitome of computer programming

To understand coding further, let’s go back to the 1840s. Ada Lovelace, a mathematician, and writer, is considered the first computer programmer. Charles Babbage called Lovelace the “enchantress of numbers.” Babbage is regarded by many as the father of computer. Coding or computer programming is the methodology of communicating with computers. In simpler terms, coding is a language that computers understand. Programming involves many activities such as analysis, generating algorithms, profiling algorithm’s accuracy and resource consumption, and implementation of algorithms.

The computer has got its due, men programmers have got theirs, but have we ever thought about the “queens” who achieved many firsts in computer programming? It is appropriate to glorify them for their extraordinary achievements over the years.

Augusta Ada Lovelace (1815-1852)

Augusta Ada Lovelace is widely known as the first woman programmer. Ada Lovelace was a mathematician and writer and worked with Charles Babbage on his calculating machines – to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Ada Lovcelace wrote notes in 1843 on how people could use letters, symbols, and numbers to command computers to complete complex calculations. Her notes were published in an English science journal the same year.

The US Department of Defense paid its tribute in the 1980s by naming a computer language after her, calling it “Ada.”

Grace Hopper (1906-1992)

Grace Hopper coined the term “computer bug” when she was working with the Mark II computer. Legendary television talk show host David Letterman describes Hopper as the ‘Queen of software.’

She believed computers didn’t understand English and designed a programming language FLOW-MATIC which later helped develop COBOL (Common Business Orientated Language) in 1959. COBOL is used in business, finance, and administrative systems for companies.

Joan Clarke (1917-1996)

‘Imitation Game’ was a brilliant film, not because Benedict Cumberbatch dominated the screenplay, but how Joan Clarke and Alan Turing worked together to break the German Enigma ciphers during World War II. Clarke, Turing, and others made one of the earliest computers, known as Bombes, to decipher German codes. It is widely believed that their game-changing efforts cut short the war by two years.

Mary Jackson (1921-2005)

You know the importance of a personality when their life’s work is documented in a film. Mary Jackson was one such figure! The movie ‘Hidden Figures’ celebrates a set of African-American women coders who played a crucial role in the 1960s in America’s attempt to be the first to reach space.

Mary Jackson, who earned the reputation of ‘human-computer,’ was a mathematician and an aerospace engineer. Jackson was, in fact, the first black female engineer at NASA and later worked on a program to encourage women in the sciences.

Annie Easley (1933-2011)

“I just have my own attitude. I’m out here to get the job done, and I knew I had the ability to do it, and that’s where my focus was.”

That’s Annie Easley for you!

Easley read a newspaper article about twin sisters working for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics in 1955. That’s when she fell in love with computers. A day later, she applied for a job at the space agency, and two weeks later, Easley was working as a “human computer,” doing computations for researchers <https://www.nasa.gov/feature/annie-easley-computer-scientist>.

Easley, considered a frontiersperson in coding, adapted to computers and soon learned to program based on Fortran and the SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) language.

Jean E. Sammet (1928-2017)

Jean E. Sammet wrote the first computer program for symbolic manipulation of mathematical formulas, called FORMAC, in 1961.

Jean Sammet’s story is nothing short of a fictional character. In 1956, while working with Sperry Gyroscope analyzing torpedo trajectories from submarines, her manager’s boss asked her she knew about the new computer the company was building.

“I said, ‘Yes, but I don’t know anything more,'” Sammet said, narrating the story during a talk at Mount Holyoke College in 2016. “And he said, ‘Do you want to be our programmer?’ And I said, ‘What’s a programmer?’ He said, ‘I don’t know, but I know we need one.'”

In 1959, Sammet and other programmers designed COBOL, which is used even today. A couple of years later, Sammet directed the development of FORMAC while working with IBM. In 1965, Sammet led the development of Ada programming language.

Frances Allen (1932-2020)

Frances Allen was an American computer scientist known for her path-breaking work optimizing compilers. Allen became the first woman to be an IBM Fellow, and in 2006 she was the first woman to be honoured with the Turing Award. The awards and accolades don’t stop here as she was the recipient of the IEEE Computer Society Charles Babbage Award and the Ada Lovelace Award from the Association of Women in Computing. A Ph.D. IBM Fellowship Award was also started in her honour.

Margaret Hamilton (Born 1936)

Margaret Hamilton was among the programmers to code for the first portable computer, and as a result, her work proved to be instrumental. As a director of software engineering for the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory project Apollo 11 mission, Hamilton and her team programmed a code that made the first moon landing possible.

However, it wasn’t easy as there were a lot of barriers along the road.

“Her code got humans on the moon,” wrote Wired in a moving tribute to Hamilton and her team.

“When I first got into it, nobody knew what it was that we were doing. It was like the Wild West. There was no course in it. They didn’t teach it,” Hamilton told Wired in an interview.

The ENIAC Women Coders

Fran Bilas, Betty Jennings, Ruth Lichterman, Kay McNulty, Betty Snyder, and Marlyn Wescoff were the six women coders who developed the first all-electronic, programmable computer in 1945. ENIAC, Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, was the first digital computer, created as a secret American project in 1945 during World War II. The women of the highest order to build a computer to calculate the artillery trajectories during the war.

The computer was 1,000 times faster than other developed machines during the second world war and 2,400 times quicker than a human brain for calculating the trajectory. The machine stood 8 feet tall and 80 feet wide.

At times, it seems recognizing women for their achievements becomes a tough pill to swallow for a dominant male society. The women that mattered the most were not invited for the demonstration of ENIAC after the war in 1946.

Women have been a vital cog in computing. Such genius women coded many programs that give us access to uninterrupted services even today. Let’s not hesitate to recognize such talent and continue to celebrate the women in our society. May the women not only in the field of technology but science, arts, culture, sports, and politics continue to inspire more ladies for generations to come.

It’s not only about praising and applauding the achievements of women. It was a high time talent solution, and IT staffing agencies opened more and newer opportunities to hire women in the IT sector, computer science, engineering, and other fields.

Are You Working from Home? Tips & Tricks to Avoid Common Eye Problems

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, most salaried and self-employed people are working from home to practise social distancing. With the emergence and use of several new digital platforms for connecting, socialising, and getting work done, from the comfort of your home, staying away from digital devices seems challenging.

However, this means that we are now spending most of our time indoors, using our digital devices for long periods. Yes, it is necessary to complete your work, but do you know the side effects of using digital devices for many hours at a stretch?

Prolonged exposure to digital devices such as laptops and mobile phones can cause discomfort, eye irritation, dryness, pain, blurry vision, and redness in the eye. Hereare some tips to help you avoid these common eye problems due to long working hours in front of your laptops.

  • Digital Eye Strain

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), or Digital Eye Strain (DES), is a prevalent eye disorder that is induced by excessive viewing of monitors, laptops, or smartphone screens. You are already aware ofyour daily digital usage, whether it is for office work or during your private time.

Some Common Symptoms of DES or CVS are:

  • Eyestrain
  • Headaches
  • Dry eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Neck and shoulder pain

In case you face any of these symptoms when working from home, you must learn how to prevent or relieve eye strain so that no further eye problems develop.

How Can You Avoid Digital Eye Strain?1

  • Adhere to the 20-20-20 rule (look away from your digital screen every 20 minutes, for a period of 20 seconds, at an object 20 feet away)[2]
  • Ensure that you voluntarily blink more while practising the 20-20-20 rule
  • Make sure your room has adequate lighting
  • Correct digital screen glares by adjusting display settings

If You are Someone Who Prefers Wearing Contact Lenses Over Glasses:

Yes, contact lenses offer comfortable, and clear peripheral vision, but when using digital screens for an extended period, they may cause dryness in your eyes. Thus, if you are wearing contact lenses and working on digital devices for an extended period, you may feel irritation due to dry eyes.

No, you do not need to start using eyeglasses. Instead, you can consult an eye care professional to decide which contact lenses suit you the best. Amongst the different types of contact lenses available for various eye conditions, you must choose a pair of contact lenses that are specially designed to minimise dry eyedryness symptoms while working on digital devices. With the advancement in technology, and after extensive research, reputable brands such as Bausch+Lomb have designed contact lenses that are specially built to avert lens dehydration and give superior comfort.

You can explore the Bausch+Lomb Ultra Contact Lenses that features MoistureSeal technology, which offers you an unparalleled lens experience as it enables higher breathability and moisture retention of up to 95%. So, if you work long hours with digital screens, Bausch+Lomb Ultra Contact lenses seem to be the best contact lenses option as they are designed for an extended wear duration ofto be worn for up to 16 hours in a day, and preventsdry eyelens related drynessas onthe same time.*

  • Myopia or Near-sightedness

Myopia is an eye disorder in which an affected person can only clearly see things that are close to them, while things that are at a distance (far from the person) look blurry. In case you have myopia or are at risk of developing myopia, increased exposure to digital screens may worsen the conditiontrouble you too.

With your work from home regime, you usually work in front of a computer for a prolonged period, which can have a huge impact and may reduce your eyes’ capability to focus on distant objects, whether you have inherited myopia or not.

How to Correct or Avoid Myopia (Near-Sightedness)?

Consult with an optometrist to first discuss your condition. Then follow the recommendations, as prescribed by your eye care specialist.

Some common corrections are:

  • Wear prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses
  • Get a corneal refractive therapy (CRT) done (to reshape the curvature of the cornea)
  • Laser procedures can be performed to correct vision permanently
  • Reduce digital eye strain to avoid worsening the condition
  • Wear prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses

Some other ways for you to prevent eye problems are:

If you are working from home, you know the number of digital distractions we have around you – Televisions, tablets, and smartphones. Scrolling through social media feeds, or researching about a topic, or just watching movies online, you spend a lot of your time using a digital device. Here’s how you can lower your overall screen time:

  • Avoid eating meals in front of a TV
  • Don’t use your smartphone while eating
  • Restrict non-work-related screen time
  • Try not to use your digital devices while in bed
  • Spend your time on social media smartly
  • Please do not use your phone while in the washroom
  • Set a daily alarm or reminder to lower your screen time
  • Practice some yoga or meditation to relax your mind and body

You cannot deny the fact that working from home has its perks. You can smartly plan your day out and take some time to rest your eyes as compared to when working in the office. So, if you have the privilege to work from home, take this as an opportunity to improve your eye health!

As a business owner, you have a lot on your plate when it comes to marketing your business online. While you might think your website magically appears in searches, search engine optimization (SEO for short) is the key to receiving more and better traffic to your website. There are two different types of SEO you need to know about: local SEO and organic SEO. But first, it’s important to understand the different sections of the search engine results page (SERP).

At the top, paid advertisements might appear. It’s not always guaranteed ads will appear; it just depends on if businesses are running ads for what you’re searching. Next, is the local search section, often called the maps or pushpin section. This is where local businesses will appear in relevant searches. The third section is known as the organic section, which contains info related to a search. However, it doesn’t necessarily have to feature location-specific sites.

What Is Local SEO?

Local SEO is a strategy that helps businesses appear in the local search section of an internet search. Businesses that have a physical storefront or that use a service area can greatly benefit from local SEO. To optimize for local SEO, businesses should make sure their name, address, phone number and website URL (NAPU) are consistent across their entire website presence.

What Is Organic SEO?

Organic SEO, on the other hand, helps businesses that don’t have a local focus appear in relevant searches. For example, searching “pizza recipe” in Google will bring up hundreds of organic results for a searcher to choose from. Think of organic as more of a section to find information rather than searching for a specific business.

Local SEO or Organic SEO: Which Is Better?

Both search engine optimization tactics are useful. Neither is better than the other, however, which one you focus on depends on your type of business. If you have a brick-and-mortar business, it’s likely you’ll want to focus on local SEO so consumers in your community can find you. If you’re an e-commerce shop with no physical location, organic SEO is the better option.

Keep in mind that you do not have to focus on one or the other, though. As a pizza shop, if you want to publish weekly blog content to help improve your organic ranking, do it! No one is stopping you from ranking in both local and organic search results.

There are many factors that go into search engine optimization. If you still aren’t sure which type of SEO is best for your business, reach out to a Dallas SEO Expert for help on getting your business found in online searches.

The average American throws 219 pounds of food into the dumpster every year. Not only is this environmentally harmful, but it isn’t financially wise either! In a culture where things are so readily pitched into the trash can, stop this consumerist mindset in its tracks with these easy tips below.

Waste Not, Want Not

Make sure you get the most of the food that you buy. When vegetables lose their crispness, throw them into a soup rather than throwing them out. Save your chicken or beef bones and use them, along with your celery tops and other vegetable scraps, to make your own nourishing bone stocks. When berries start to go soft, freeze them to use later in smoothies. Hard boil any eggs that are past their peak freshness – they actually peel better at that point anyways! Any vegetables or fruit that you can’t find a way to reuse or freeze should be composted, to be used in improving soil quality rather than adding to a landfill somewhere.

Buy What Would Otherwise Be Thrown Out

If produce isn’t uniformly shaped and colored, it gets picked over in the grocery stores until it is eventually thrown out. Many producers avoid the cost of shipping food that doesn’t sell by throwing it out immediately and not even bothering transporting it to the grocery store. So much food waste! Services such as Imperfect Foods saves food from being discarded. They realize that this food is just as delicious and nutritious, and offer it directly to consumers at a discounted price. The discounted savings more than make up for the subscription fee. Nourishing, slightly misshapen produce, delivered to your door at a reduced price, and less food waste? Sounds like a plan.

Cook Traditionally

Sadly, there are many cuts and parts that butchers toss – not because they aren’t deeply nutritious, but because people no longer know how to cook them! What a waste of resources. Ask your meat farmer or butcher if they have any off-cuts or animal fats that are sitting unwanted. Oxtail soup is absolutely delicious. Liver is increasingly noted for its health benefits. Some odds and ends aren’t particularly easy to eat, but make a collagen-rich broth. Tallow and lard are healthier cooking oils than vegetable or canola oils by far. All these cuts are available for free or cheap for the asking!

Buy In Bulk, But Not Too Much

Buying in bulk not only saves monetarily, but it also saves on packaging waste and transportation emissions. However, if you buy in bulk and most of the items go bad, stale, or rancid before you get to them, not much good is being done. Consider what items you can truly buy in bulk, and then make sure you properly store them. Even if that requires lidded five-gallon buckets, one plastic bucket produced one time and used for decades is better environmentally than regularly buying and then throwing away a multitude of little plastic packages.

Eat What You Have

You likely have some items in your pantry or freezer than have been there for months. Use them up! Work them into your meal plan! Food sitting unused, even if its shelf stable, is food wasted. Check your fridge regularly for leftovers that might have gotten pushed back and behind items. If you’re someone who just never seems to eat your leftovers, find ways to make new meals with them. The serving of steamed vegetables and the extra bit of taco meat would make a fantastic stew. Put some different spices or sauces on the leftover rice to change up the flavor from the first time you ate it. There’s no reason for food to be thrown away!

What is medical tourism?

Medical tourism is the process of going a country other than the one you live in to receive medical care. This can be due to the cost of surgery or the availability in certain places.

A combination of low-cost treatments along with inexpensive flights means that sometimes it’s cheaper to travel a long distance in order to get a procedure.

Some of the most common procedure that people undergo on medical tourism trips include cosmetic surgery, heart surgery and dentistry.

Risks of Medical Tourism

However, this is not always the best option, depending on the country you are going to it can mean less of a focus on hygiene and safety. There are not necessarily as many rules and regulations as in your home country.

The same goes for medication, not all countries have such stringent rules on medicine control, and some may be counterfeit or of a poorer quality.

Another problem can be communication, if you do not speak the language fluently then misunderstanding can come about very quickly. Whether it be about your surgery itself or about your after care, it is vital that you are aware of what is happening and what you need to do in the future.

Benefits of having surgery in the UK

Making sure you consider all your different options is vital and making sure you have your surgery with a respectable and regulated cosmetic surgery provider is very important. If you go local then just in case you have any problems after your surgery, you will be a lot closer to your surgeon, but also to your GP who can help to reassure you everything is okay. Follow up care is one of the most important things a UK clinic can provide.

You are more likely to find other people that have either, had the same surgery as your or used the same surgeon as you if you stay local. Positive or even negative reviews can help you to determine where you want to go and which surgery you would like to enquire about.

In the long run it will probably work out cheaper to stay in this country, even though there are cheaper countries initially, by the time you’ve added up the costs of the surgery, travelling – for both you and your companion to accompany you, and of any follow up appointments or possible complications, it will most likely end up as being considerably more expensive.

Pharmacy tech school can offer you the chance to take a leap into the healthcare field in as little as ten months, depending on the program. Pharmacy technicians are in demand, and pharmacy tech school has never been more accessible or more affordable. You can even complete your programs online, so you don’t have to risk social distancing and other COVID-related risk factors.

In this guide, we’ll cover some of the more important pieces of knowledge that you’ll obtain in pharmacy tech school. That way, you’ll get a better understanding of what you’re paying for and what a pharmacy technician actually does.

Here are five things you’ll learn in pharmacy tech school.

1. Anatomy And Physiology

Anatomy and physiology are covered in most pharmacy tech courses, though not in great detail. You need a rudimentary knowledge of these things to become a pharmacy technician, but since you’re not performing surgery or assessing illness, that’s as far as your training goes.

Remember that anatomy is the study of the body’s organs and systems, and physiology is the study of the chemistry and physics of how they work in relation to one another. It’s important to at least understand the basic functions of the body, so you have a better idea of why certain medications are prescribed. The more you understand your job, the more satisfied you’ll feel while you’re doing it, and the more rewarding it will be overall.

2. Medical Ethics

Ethics are a crucial part of a conscious and compassionate healthcare worker. In pharmacy tech school, you’ll learn the do’s and don’ts of being a pharmacy technician, including how to interact with patients, handle paperwork, file insurance claims properly, store medication, and so much more. A pharmacy technician can have a lot of responsibilities to manage on a day-to-day basis, so ethics will inevitably come into play some time.

Ethics also teach you not to engage in illegal or illicit activities while on the job. As a pharmacy tech, you’ll be around controlled substances and other drugs on a daily basis. Things like accepting money for illegal prescription drugs or controlled substances can not only cost you your job, but also land you in serious legal trouble. The bottom line? Pay attention in your ethics class—and use common sense when it comes to doing your job!

3. Attention To Detail

Perhaps one of the most important skills you’ll learn in pharmacy tech school is serious attention to detail. When you’re working with prescriptions, controlled substances, and personal information, attention to detail isn’t just a good skill to have—it’s a necessary one. The more attentive you are to the finer details of your job, the less of a chance there is to make mistakes. Mistakes with controlled substances can be dangerous to your job and your freedom.

You’ll need to learn to read over things carefully, double-check things like insurance paperwork, and always remember to verify personal info with the patient. You’ll also need to have some intuition as to when things don’t seem right. Insurance fraud is still a serious problem in the US, and you’d be amazed by how many people use their pharmacy to conduct illicit business.

4. Medical Terminology

Medical terminology is also crucial to your position as a pharmacy technician. You’ll need to know the names of prescription drugs, the medical terms for body parts and illnesses, and more. You’ll hear these terms at one point or another, and it’s just important to understand the terminology that relates to your field of study.

Medical terminology is something that you’ll take with you into higher learning, as well. You might be surprised how much a foundation in medical terminology can help if you seek out a higher position in healthcare. Many pharmacy technicians choose to go on to become pharmacists themselves!

5. Pharmacology

What kind of pharmacy technician would you be if you didn’t know anything about the drugs you were helping to package and send off to patients? Pharmacology is an important part of your education. You’ll learn the names of common drugs, their chemical properties, and how they treat the conditions they’re assigned for. This can be especially helpful if patients start asking questions, or if you’re not sure how to tell two drugs apart aside from their names.

Conclusion

At its core, an education as a pharmacy tech is a simple but rewarding step into the healthcare industry. You’ll learn important terminology, the body’s structures and their functions, and much more. If this sounds like a career you’d be interested in, don’t wait to get started! There are thousands of programs to choose from, including online-only programs and work at your own pace programs. Best of all, it won’t cost you a fortune to get your education. Most programs cost less than $10,000 to complete.

Cross-platform app development is one of the hottest trends of 2021 in the mobile app development industry. In this article, we at WebSailors will look at 5 benefits of cross-platform applications. Why is it profitable for your business to create cross-platform applications instead of native ones?

1. Shorter development time

One of the key features of hybrid mobile development (or cross-platform application development) is that it allows programmers to reuse most of the application code for different platforms. No need to write new code for Android and iOS. Native apps require coding for each platform separately, so two teams are required at the same time. When building a cross-platform application, you only need one developer. Code reuse in mobile cross-platform app development will provide excellent time and effort savings.

Do you have questions? Message WebSailors – hybrid mobile app development company

2. Wider audience

When developing a mobile cross-platform application, many entrepreneurs are wondering which operating system is best to launch an application for Android or iOS? A cross-platform solution allows you to create an application that reaches a wider audience. This application will work on both iOS and Android. Thus, your cross-platform application targets both markets at the same time. First, create an app for one platform to get the product up and running faster. And then quickly add second platform support to your application.

3. Saving budget

When you are planning to create a mobile application, the first thing you think about is the cost of developing a mobile application. Compared to native apps, cross-platform apps are more cost-effective. You can save up to 30% when choosing this application. Since you don’t need to create tons of code for iOS and Android separately. This makes application development much faster and helps lower the overall cost.

4. Product support and update

Adding functionality or fixing bugs for all platforms at once;

5. Unified application logic – application logic will work the same for all platforms. Written and debugged logic contains potentially fewer errors and discrepancies in its work.

Did you know that you can actually use CBD for acne? People everywhere have heard of CBD, but very few people know of an effective way to utilize this natural compound to help manage their acne. Even the most severe forms (cystic acne) can be treated with CBD as an ingredient in the fight against acne.

What Causes Acne?

The most common origins of acne come from an imbalance in hormones. This causes an excessive amount of oil to secrete out of your pores, and clog them. Most people can clear up their acne by either washing their skin regularly, or simply waiting for their hormones to stabilize.

Once this happens, most people will never have acne again. Sure, they will get pimples, but they won’t have any more acne breakouts.

How Can I Use CBD to Treat Acne?

I would like to be upfront in letting you know that you cannot just rub CBD oil on your face and expect it to clear your skin. This would simply apply a layer of oil and maybe even make your skin condition even worse.

New Phase Blends has figured out the way to effectively treat acne with CBD. They pair a CBR-rich, full spectrum hemp extract with what’s called ‘salicylic acid.’ Salicylic acid may sound like a harsh chemical, but it really isn’t. ‘Glow’ utilizes a powerful, two-stage acne fighting formula that uses CBD as a key ingredient.

Salicylic acid comes from willow bark extract, and it’s been used for hundreds of years to help clean out skin and even fight bacteria. It is a much better skin cleaning substance than a bacteria fighter. The salicylic acid gets deep into your pores where it can clean them out of debris – which is the likely source of your acne. Combining CBD with Salicylic Acid

This is where things get interesting. Most people who use over-the-counter acne washes or lotions will notice that it leaves their skin rather dry, and even painfully dry sometimes. By including CBD in your acne cream, it helps achieve two things:

  1. Reduce redness and swelling associated with acne
  2. Aids in moisturizing the local area where it is applied

These two functions are what makes CBD a great component in the fight against acne. When you blend CBD with salicylic acid, the results really speak for themselves.

Most people only know about CBD, and its’ use as a sedative, anti-inflammatory agent, or pain-relief compound. Few people realize the amount of other potentials this miracle component carries.

New Phase Blends seems to have it figured out. They blend CBD with other natural, well-known products to offer the most effective form of release possible.

Their CBD acne cream is a testament to just how powerful CBD can be, when used properly. So many different companies are selling the same exact thing – basic, plain CBD oil. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely offers room for improvement.

Conclusion | CBD for Fighting Acne

Remember, there are so many more uses to CBD than we know of. It is great when used as an ingredient in an acne cream. A lot of acne products do not offer relief for the often painful redness and swelling associated with acne.

This is where CBD comes in. How incredible would it be to not only clear your skin, but clear all signs of the acne you are struggling with as well? This is exactly why you need to be using a CBD cream for acne instead of the harsh medications that are offered.

Almost every home has pest infestations, which can be detrimental if they’re allowed to get out of control. Before you attempt to exterminate pests in your home, you must find out what caused them to infiltrate your home and what makes them stay. Experts from a New Jersey pest control service would suggest observing your area’s environmental conditions that lures pests towards your home to begin with.

  • Dead Animals or Feces

Check your property to see if you can find any dead animals or feces lying around in your surroundings, as some pests use these as their food source. If you find an animal corpse, you should call the authorities for proper disposal.

  • Open Septic Tank, Leach Drain Covers

Human waste goes to septic tanks for treatment and proper disposal. The tank should be airtight to prevent the leak of the harmful gas. You need to perform regular maintenance for your leach drains and septic tanks by asking professionals to conduct investigations for any damages and repairs.

  • Pools of Water

Search your surroundings for pools of water caused by leaking taps. Pools of water are a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can bring deadly diseases inside your home. Also look for old tires and containers that collect rainwater, and make sure you get rid of them.

  • Trash Lying Around

Make sure that you don’t have any trash lying around your property, as rodents will tear open the bags in search of food and scraps. If you need to bring your garbage outside, ensure that it’s placed inside bins that are adequately sealed.

  • Dirty Toilets

If you have a dirty toilet, expect pest infestation until you tidy up and maintain cleanliness. A dirty bathroom is a dangerous health hazard to people living in your house. Pests can easily carry diseases from germ-infested places.

  1. Uncovered Food in the Kitchen

Uncovered food in the kitchen will act as a haven for pests such as fruit flies. Make sure that you store your food in an air-tight container and preserve it inside your refrigerator.

  • Dirty Bench Tops and Tables

After using the table or benchtops, people sometimes forget to clean and sanitize. Flies would flock onto these surfaces and search for food, leaving microorganisms that can be dangerous to your family’s health.

  • Unclean Shelves, Drawers, and Cupboards

Cockroaches love to go to these places and search for food. There could be leftovers or spilled drinks on the surface, which you must not forget to clean up after eating.

  • Dirty Kitchen Floors

Food preparation can be messy, with plenty of debris falling to the floor which attracts pests such as ants. Try to make it a habit of cleaning your kitchen floor after preparing food, and try to sanitize it by applying a proper chemical solution.

Signs of Pest Infestation in Your House

Some may think that pest infestations are easy to identify, such as the presence of flies and mosquitoes. However, some pests hide very well and wait for an opportunity to go out and scavenge for food when no one’s around. Here are signs of pests that are already in your house.

Cockroaches

  • Plenty of cockroach droppings
  • A sickly, unpleasant stench
  • Cockroach eggs, empty egg cases
  • Chewed papers and cardboard
  • Dead cockroaches

Rats

  • Rat feces and urine
  • Rat and mice holes
  • Sounds of chewing, scratching, and running noises
  • Teeth marks
  • Greasy fur stains

Bed Bugs

  • Bites on people’s skin
  • White clusters of eggs
  • Bugs hiding in between seams of bed frames, mattresses
  • Spots of dark blood on the bed

Take It Seriously

Pest infestations are dangerous to people’s health. They carry diseases and viruses which can quickly spread inside our homes. It is essential to keep our surroundings clean and sanitized at all times. It would also be best to hire professionals to inspect your home regularly for pest infestations.

The COVID-19 global pandemic created a myriad of challenges across every industry. In the international shipping industry, the pandemic permanently changing the way we operate our businesses. Before the global pandemic, the freight markets and international shipping industries faced severe challenges in global trade. Victor Restis, president of Enterprises Shipping & Trade S.A., pointed out that issues of 2019 didn’t disappear and were only exasperated by COVID-19.

In the early days of the virus, ports in China, Hong Kong, and India were among the first areas to restrict movement through their ports. The U.S. and Europe followed suit shortly after, and both the markets and the vessel operations slowed significantly. The dry bulk sector, which was already experiencing a significant recession, was affected the worst, bringing rates to historic lows. And it got worse from there. In the early months of the pandemic, analysis from Sea Intelligence showed container lines were suffering losses of between $300m and $350m per week as a result of the virus putting a halt on global business, restricted borders, and decreased traffic.

A Highly Competitive Landscape Turned Re-defined

Business processes pre-COVID-19 were already under a microscope as a large sector of shipping enterprises leaned more on their 3PL partners to drive down costs and improve business processes. Restis points out that the pressures placed on shipping and intermodal supply chain movement were quite high during the pandemic as provisions became scarce, and increased demand for critical medical supplies increased dramatically. When the virus sent shockwaves through every industry, which rattled shipping enterprises and supply chain touchpoints. Response strategy plans were quickly implemented to meet a worst-case scenario situation. Seafarers, operations, communications, and head office functions were re-defined overnight, and the pressures to have dry and wet bulk goods delivered accurately and on-time increased tenfold.

Recovering from the COVID-19 Crisis

A year into the pandemic and the world is still grappling with the pandemic, and the distribution of the vaccine. Many countries are re-opening their economies, lifting restrictions to movement, and learning to conduct “business as usual” under the omnipresent threat of COVID-19. Others are experiencing surges and finding new strains of the virus that are keeping businesses and economies in lock-down. The business of international cargo shipping and all the related micro-industries is no different. The entire system was put on notice during COVID-19, but it performed exceptionally well considering its adversary and the global interruptions it delivered. As an incredibly intricate industry, one break in the chain can have devastating effects throughout the entire system. In my opinion, two areas need to be secured in the wake of this pandemic.

Horizons on the Mend

Given all the challenges we faced pre-COVID-19 and watching how the international shipping industry performed from the early days to today, there should be consumers and industry confident in the ability to rise and meet the challenges we may face. Restis believes that the issue going forward will be how different nation’s decide to break away from product and production dependency on larger nations, especially for its essential items including medicines and medical equipment. However that plays out, the international shipping and trade industry will remain strong.
